In His unfathomable goodness and love, God took on the form of His own creation to save us from the inevitability of spiritual death.
Our salvation, however, requires our cooperation and this is what Jesus meant when He said that we must be born again of water and spirit.
Water symbolizing the cleansing of our minds and hearts of lies, illusions, and deception through the blood of Jesus. And the spirit of God's love and truth to raise us to the abundant life He intended for us.
Jesus was referring to our rebirth into truth - that we were never separated from God's love and we have always been one with Him, if only we were not deceived by our inherited deceitful ego.
John 3:5 "I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit."
