There are many things to be grateful for in life, but one that we may miss is the blessing of yet another breath. Breathing is literally the gift of life.
The Jewish sages point out that breathing is connected not only to the physical act of living, but also to our spiritual vitality. In Hebrew, the word for breath is neshima, which is very similar to the word for soul, neshama. This is because when we breathe, we connect with our soul, the measure of God in us.
When we are thankful for our breath, we can be grateful for everything. We praise and glorify God most through and in our breath, through and in our life.
Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
