It is imperative that we not only understand what holiness is, but also devote ourselves to pursuing it.
In Leviticus, God demanded our holiness "You must be holy because I, the LORD, am holy."
Put very simply, holiness is consecration.
When God appeared to Moses in Exodus 3 in the burning bush, he said to him, “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.” The ground was devoted to God, a sacred space consecrated as a meeting place between him and Moses.
For us, then, holiness is simply devotion to God. To be holy is to be fully possessed by him.
When God's possession of us deepens, aside from growing in virtue, we become benevolent, courteous, and kind.
2 Corinthians 9:9 "As it is written, He [the benevolent person] scatters abroad; He gives to the poor; His deeds of justice and goodness and kindness and benevolence will go on and endure forever!"
