Dying to self is radically squandering everything we have and we are. Jesus disgusted the prim and proper by dining with the scum of society, he told parables about excessive generosity, and he taught always and everywhere to “Lay not up for yourselves earthly treasures.” He went about squandering himself, gambling away every gift God bestows.
Jesus left us a method that he himself modeled to perfection. This method of full, voluntary self-donation reconnects us instantly to the wellspring of life.
It is love completely given that opens the gate to the Kingdom of Heaven.
