If God became flesh, incarnated in the material world, then resurrection is an indisputable outcome – nothing divine can ever die.
Easter, as Western Christianity believes, is a one-time miracle that happened in the resurrection of Jesus. The Eastern Christians, however, believe in the resurrection in three ways: the trampling of hell, the corporate leading out of hell, and the corporate uplifting of humanity with Christ. It is a very different message that never made it to the Western Church, Catholic and Protestant. Eastern Christianity believes the Easter message is about Jesus and society, humanity, and history itself.
Every crucifixion—war, poverty, torture, hunger—all have redemption through Christ’s resurrection. Christ pulled creation out of hell. Christ destroyed death.
Christ is the overcoming of hell and death in a very real way. We need to be deeply excited about this because through Jesus Christ we are all a part of it.
1 Corinthians 15:20 “Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.”
