devotion is grace

We cannot produce devotion, it is the work of grace. But we need to desire it and create the conditions that can allow it to happen.

Anything that helps us to be less adamant, less aggressive, less judgmental toward ourselves is a good place to start, because the face we turn toward ourselves is the face we turn toward the world.

A life of love is a life of devotion - a life that’s rooted in the heart.

Contrarily, we habitually are occupied with ideology, righteousness, opinionatedness, and insisting on what we believe is right. All are ways of avoiding the heart and staying in our heads!

Heart-based people look out at reality with tender eyes, they have calm faces and natural smiles even before they start talking. This is what Jesus was talking about when he taught, “Blessed are the pure of heart”. It’s having achieved a purity of intention, desire, and motivation that isn’t about our self, but about others.

Colossians 3:12,14 "Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony."
