Love is not something we do, it is something that happens to us, and must participate in - it’s something we surrender to, something we fall into.
The great Love we fall into, agape, unconditional or divine love is a love we receive as a gift. It’s a love we can only participate in, it’s a life bigger than our own.
Paul does not speak of "doing" the deeds of the Spirit, but of the "fruits" of the Spirit, fruits of God's presence moving in us. Ultimately, love is the greatest gift of the Spirit, for it is the gift of God Himself.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7,13 "Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love."
