Most of us live life unaware of our false self - that ego-centered matrix of energy that each of us creates early in life as the way we try to get our needs met.
We continue to try to solve problems in our adult life with the same strategies that worked when we were children. And we exaggerate our needs for security, affection, and control, seeking to accumulate the cultural symbols for those three basic needs.
Our true self, however, is our natural being at the center of our soul which is always one with God, always in union with the ultimate.
From within that union, all is well, even death itself. From within that ever-present union we are free from the compulsive fear of the false self and able freely to love and live. That is the way of the cross - the path of dying in order to live.
Luke 9:23-24 “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it."
