holy tears

Most of us do not know how to deal with pain and suffering. We are made to believe that grief and sadness are something to suppress, deny, or avoid - that it is better to be mad than sad.

Grief is unfinished hurt. When we suppress, control, or try to fix it we only deny ourselves its lessons. Weeping is a different way of being. Tears cleanse the lens of our eyes, our soul. Only when we have exhausted our resources are we finally free to weep.

We know we are cleansed by "holy tears" when we don’t need to blame anybody, even ourselves. Grieving is the transformation and cleansing of our soul, and in some way, God is in it.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 "Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope."
