As humans, we are inherently wounded; we are prone to fatal habits, seemingly ingrained in our fallen nature. And we insist on looking for satisfaction in things that cannot provide real or lasting fulfillment.
We are, however, made in the image of God, and our infinite desire can only be satisfied by the infinite nature of God.
Yes, we are of God's image, but we must pursue His likeness through our full and final participation through Jesus. This is not so much an invitation into a distant heaven, but an invitation to be divine co-operators.
An invitation to receive the glory of God's presence in us and in our life and receive the gift of God's likeness.
Romans 8:10-11 "Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life[d] because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you."
