Uncertainty is an unbearable darkness. A constant and desperate need for certainty makes us draw our own conclusions and dismiss or ignore any evidence to the contrary.
Faith, on the other hand, is the complete opposite of this mindset. When uncertain, instead of wanting to know, faith’s desire is to understand. In some ways, it is like learning to “see in the dark.” We cannot be certain of what’s in front of us, but with some time and patience, our eyes adjust, and we can make the next right move.
Scriptures do not provide rational certainty, but a distinct way of knowing, a relationship, a path where we must discover for ourselves that grace, love, mercy, and forgiveness are necessary for survival in an uncertain world.
People who live with faith continue growing, are compassionate, and have a quiet and confident joy.
2 Corinthians 5:6-7 “Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight.”
