God loves diversity. Looking at the animal world, or each human being, we see diversity; we see that we are all different. We, however, consistently confuse unity with uniformity.
Most of us do not know how to be both diverse and united. Even the church has become more and more an exclusionary institution, instead of one to which Jesus constantly invites sinners and outcasts.
God created us for interdependence as God has created us in His image—the image of a divine fellowship of the holy and blessed Trinity. God has created us to be different in order that we can realize our need for one another.
We uphold and pursue diversity because throughout all of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, we see God working to redeem a people for himself, a people from every tribe and tongue and nation – colorful and diverse.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14 “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.”
