Divine love is the model for all human love, and human love is the necessary preparation for any sublime encounter. If we have never experienced human love, it will be difficult for us to access God as Love. If we have never let God love us, we will not know how to love others as they deserve.
Loving is giving a portion of our self to another, and we see a piece of our self in another. Lovers realize they are participating in something that fully satisfies and creates an immense Inner Aliveness. To love is the key that unlocks everything in us, for others, and toward God, so much so that we call it “salvation.”
It is critical to allow God through another person, to see us in our imperfection and nakedness, as we are, rather than as we wish to be. Otherwise, we will never know the essential and utterly transformative mystery of grace - when we could declare as Mary did: “He has looked on the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.” (Luke 1:48)
