love's awe and wonder

“A wise man never knows all,

only a fool knows everything.”

– African Proverb

Those who know they do not fully know are much more loving, while those who presume they fully know tend to be arrogant. Those who know very little of God are far too sure of themselves, while those who know God are always humble. Those who find God are usually very serious about their quest and their questions, more than being certain about their answers.

When speaking of God and things supernatural, all we can do is use metaphors and analogies; there is no language that is adequate to describe the divine.

Religion needs spirituality. It needs a balancing intermediary to unlock itself from the inside and produce mature Christians who can build bridges to everyone else.

This balancing intermediary is of two streams in the world of spirituality: the knowing tradition and the not-knowing tradition.

Both forms are necessary, and together create a form of higher consciousness we may call Biblical faith.

Isaiah 55:8-9 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
