The failure of religious tradition is making doctrine the object of faith instead of a person. Ours should not be a faith that dogmas or moral opinions are true, but a faith that is based on and springs forth from a relationship with Ultimate Reality, a relationship with God.
It is unfortunate that the understanding of faith that prevailed was more of a rational acceptance of certain mental beliefs rather than an open, tranquil, and expectant trust that God is inherent in all things, and that everything is headed for good.
True faith is secure in the presence of doubt and the acceptance of life’s mystery as necessary in all encounters, intellectual breakthroughs, and relationships, not just with the Divine.
Faith, then, in order to know anything fully, must always be open to that part of it that is still mysterious and unfathomable.
Hebrews 11:6 “It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek Him.”
