Sexuality is a misplaced taboo and discussions on the subject are taken to extremes. Liberals say it is all good, and conservatives are steadfast in imposing controls.
Our body and sexuality are gifts that we need to delight in, honor, love, and listen to. We need to rest in the confidence that whatever God does is beyond misplaced fears, customs, and superstition.
The biblical twin-mandate to love God and others is the foundation of all matters of relationship and relating. Faithfulness to these commandments takes us through all its stages, all of its internal ecstasies, loneliness, and purifications. Our sexual actions become self-liberating, other-enriching, honest, faithful, socially responsible, life-serving, and joyous.
God’s way of loving is the only true foundation of human sexuality. God’s passion created ours. Our deepest and purest desires pull us to where all things are one. Fearing our sexuality comes from an unhealthy fear of God. On the other hand, unadulterated lust is an extreme ego-deception and completely empty of love.
