mind transformed

Almost every waking moment, we are consumed with “I”. “I” am hungry, tired, afraid, excited, satisfied, busy, bored, and so on.

Our ego is a cup full of opinions and speculations that we have been filling over the years about who we think we are, most often the false self. Technically, the ego is a survival mechanism to protect ourselves. The problem with the ego are insecurities and self-doubts, and its fuel is external validation.

Discovering our true self from a psychological standpoint can be described as developing a healthy ego. When we do, we become less judgmental, less illusionary, with fewer boundaries between us and the rest of the world.

From a spiritual standpoint, the self or ego is an artificial construction of informational bits and pieces that we have gathered. Since it is an artificial construction, if we don’t protect it, it will break. And this is exactly the purpose of the spiritual process — everything that can break shall break. Like a seed, the breaking is necessary for truth and light to awaken us and emerge from within.

Ephesians 5:14 "for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, 'Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.'”

Romans 12:2 "... let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
