With or without marriage we all need at least one other person to be a mirror for us, reflecting our best and worst self. The exceptional thing about a mirror is that it does not change the image it gives back.
Our God-appointed mirror reveals our good side and our dark side for the purpose of learning to love. When we fall in love, we fall into an infinite mystery where everything is mended, healed, and restored.
The only people who change, who are transformed, are people who feel safe, who feel their dignity, and who feel loved. That is what we do for one another as loving people—offer a safe relationship in which we can change. This kind of love is far from sentimental; it has real power.
2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
