We live in a time we could call "the age of anxiety." To the point that many fall for the pervasive negativity. People define themselves by what they are against, instead of by what they believe in and love.
There is a very different radical alternative, however. A faith that builds on positivity, however small, in the midst of fear. Not different from the “Yes” of Mary that began the entire process of salvation.
Jesus sweat blood in Gethsemane because he was afraid [Luke 22:44]; however, He was not afraid of being afraid, because he knew it was just fear.
Understanding that our fear is woven into God’s own life liberates us from fear in the midst of fearful situations.
This is faith; knowing and seeing good in everything. Knowing that God is mysteriously woven into all the scary things that can and do happen to us as human beings on this earth.
1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."
