We are often prevented from making the most of each moment by “conditional living”. We live out life as if there is an imaginary end-situation of sheer blissful existence in which we will finally arrive.
This is the bottom-line reason why most find happiness elusive. Even Peter's exhortation is viewed as a prescription; doing good and keeping from speaking ill as a condition for arriving at "the good life."
Christian spirituality is living virtuously; actions and behavior are symbiotic with living each moment in gratitude and grace.
1 Peter 3:10 "If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies."
