The last phrase of Matthew 5:5 "shall inherit the earth” is a figure of speech that indicates the highest of blessings. Inheritance is never taken, but given; not ours to take, but God’s to give.
Humility, meekness, and deference are not about giving up power but rather diligently harnessing it for the good of others. They are self-control and self-denial virtues.
What this really comes down to is what source we choose to follow in loving others: God or the world.
John 3:16 "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."
