perfected by love

The direction of our life is growth in love, and not just humanly explainable love, but rather, God’s love, which may be defined as, “a self-sacrificing, caring commitment that shows itself in seeking the highest good of the one loved.”

Perfected love is the love of God expressing itself in our love for another or others, not flawless perfection.

Being perfected, to most people, means that something has been changed into a state of flawlessness, but, in the New Testament, the Greek word that John uses (teleioo) means finished, or completed, or accomplished.

1 John 4:17-18 "And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love."
