"And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for." (John Keating, Dead Poets Society)
One-third of the Bible is poetry and for good reason. They are shared experiences of the community of believers. Holding before us thoughts, feelings, and experiences, with the intention that we dwell on them.
Poetry is living word for it is presented with its spirit. It's an affective form of writing that awakens our emotions. This is the life-giving purpose of poetry and all art forms, they awaken our dormant spirit.
Dwelling on the poetry of scripture awakens our affections, gives us new eyes to see the world, and offers new glimpses into the beauty of our triune God.
Deuteronomy 32:2 "May my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, like gentle rain upon the tender grass, and like showers upon the herb."
