pure grace

In God’s application of grace, nothing is wasted, all is used and transformed. God uses even our flesh-based desires and identities and leads us beyond them.

After His resurrection, Jesus’ message to Mary Magdalene was not that she squelch, deny, or destroy her human love for him. Instead, He just says “Do not cling to me” meaning “Don’t hold on to the past, to what you think you need or deserve; we are all heading for something much bigger and much better, Mary.”

Jesus was teaching the spiritual art of detachment. He was teaching us that even the greatest things in our lives—even our love—must be released and allowed to become something new.

Great love is both very attached (“passionate”) and yet very detached at the same time. It is love but not addiction. Our True Self can love and let go.

God’s application of grace transforms our human love into a love that is better, bigger, and eternal.

Titus 3:7 “Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”
