science and religion

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for;

it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

— Hebrews 11:1

For centuries, religion and science complemented each other. However, when Copernicus discovered that the Earth was not the center of the universe and Galileo validated his observations, Christian leaders were not willing to change their thinking. That was the beginning of the rift between science and religion.

Mystics like Augustine, Teresa of Ávila, and John of the Cross, found evidence of the very nature of the soul and its inner workings, but this was not taught to most Christians. Many used Scripture and dogma to deem human experience untrustworthy.

Ever since God created the world, God’s everlasting power and deity—however invisible—have been perfectly evident for the mind to see in the things that God has made. (Romans 1:19-20)

Fortunately, our generation now has new and wonderful evidence from science, confirming the presence and power of God, a Very Persistent Love at the heart of all creation.

After centuries of dualistic dismissal, religion is finally befriending the wisdom of science, and science is regaining the humility to recognize that the intuitions and metaphors of religion are not entirely naïve.

Romans 1:19-20 “They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”
