Knowledge of self, particularly of who we are in relationship to God, is part of God’s good design for us. How we know and experience God directly impacts our ability to love and care for others.
God created us to know Him and to experience His love. Not only are we to experience God’s love, but we are also to live in loving relationships with others.
Without knowing God and His perfect life and love, we cannot understand the depravity of our own living and loving. In this case, a lack of self-awareness can keep us from repentance.
2 Corinthians 13:5 "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?"
