Consumerism is the most prominent culture on earth with catastrophic results for humanity and our planet. We are living way beyond our means at all levels and our insatiable appetites are literally consuming the world and have resulted in climate change and financial chaos.
Because money now controls every aspect of our lives, it has become extremely difficult to find our moral compass. Nevertheless, there is a way out of the dominant culture.
When love becomes our preeminent life value, we know clearly the difference between needs and wants. With love, emptying the self is not an act of denial, but of fulfillment.
Made in the image of God, our destiny is to become one with Him, so that we too can say, not my will but God’s be done. This is not a loss, but the greatest gain.
Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
