Sometimes the hardest thing for us to do after we've done something wrong is to forgive ourselves. We tend to be our own harshest critics, beating ourselves up long after others have forgiven us. Yes, repentance is important when we're in the wrong, but the Bible also reminds us that it's important to learn from our mistakes and move on.
Forgiveness is not just a great gift to bestow on others; it’s also something that allows us to be free. We may think that self-forgiveness is only a favor for ourselves, but that forgiveness frees us to be better people through God.
Truth is, self-forgiveness results from humbly accepting God's cleansing grace of forgiveness and love and sets us free from the bondage of self condemnation.
1 John 3:19-20 "This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything."
