Over and over again in Scripture, people are referred to as "souls". The soul is eternal and imperishable. This is a sobering thought—every person you have ever met is a soul, living in a body, and that soul will last forever.
St. Teresa of Avila: "This magnificent refuge is inside you. Enter. Shatter the darkness that shrouds the doorway. Be bold. Be humble. Put away the incense and forget the incantations they taught you. Ask no permission from authorities. Close your eyes and follow your breath to the still place that leads you to the invisible path that leads you home."
