The fundamental reason why we keep causing others and ourselves so much suffering is that we are ignorant about who and what we really are. The issue is not inherent sinfulness but inherited ignorance. Ignorance brings about anxiety, self-judgment, and self-doubt.
Love takes us on a spiritual path that shows us how to hold ourselves with compassion. Allowing us to see through the layers of judgment and doubt and to discover beneath them clarity, openness, presence, and love.
Our growing awareness of who we truly are becomes a guiding light. No matter how wrong or lacking we may feel, how caught in separation, or how trapped by the messages, violations, and inequities of the society we live in, this basic goodness remains the essence of our Being.
Once we wake up to our true self, once the truth in and out of which we live and move and have our being, then nothing, no matter how much it hurts or disappoints or frustrates, can destroy the strength of our inner Peace, of our ability both to endure and to respond to whatever happens.
Ephesians 4:18 "They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts."
