"To consider persons and events and situations only in the light of their effect upon myself is to live on the doorstep of hell." ~ Thomas Merton
Love is most common and also most misunderstood. A huge difference in how our love is perceived by others is whether it’s coming from a pure and selfless place, or from a needy and selfish one.
Selfless love is rooted in the desire and delights to give of one's self. Conditional love, however, is self-centered and selfish, valuing others for what we gain or how they draw delight or pleasure from us; it distracts and detaches us from God and life itself.
Philippians 2:3-4 "Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too."
